A 16-year-old Grade 10 student at Thika High School has died after a physical confrontation with a fellow student following a disagreement reportedly linked to Friday evening prayers.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The deceased, identified as Mohamed Hare, collapsed during the altercation and was rushed to Thika Level 5 Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to preliminary reports, the students reportedly had a heated disagreement over who would lead the evening prayers shortly before they retired to their dormitory for the night.

Police arrested the other student, who is also a minor, and is being held at Thika Police Station as investigations into the incident continue.

📌 What You Need to Know

According to police, detectives are still piecing together the circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation.

"We have started investigations because at this stage we do not know exactly what happened between them. However, from preliminary observations, we understand they had a bitter fallout before the unfortunate incident occurred," a police officer said.

The officer added that the student had been arrested and was being treated as the prime suspect pending further investigations before being presented in court on Monday.

Reports suggest that tension arose after some students reportedly objected to Mohamed leading the Friday evening prayers, setting the stage for the confrontation that followed.

After the prayers ended, Mohamed and another student, identified as Eric, allegedly engaged in a brief physical confrontation during which they exchanged blows.

Fellow students said the fight lasted less than five minutes before Mohamed fell to the ground. He was rushed to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save his life.
