The Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Central District Police in New Delhi has arrested a 26-year-old Nigerian man, Chidera Jonathan, for alleged drug trafficking in India.
🇳🇬 Here's What Happened
According to a report by an Indian news outlet, The Hawk, on Thursday, Jonathan was arrested on Wednesday with 23.74 grammes of MDMA, which the police described as a commercial quantity.
The report added that the suspect was also wanted under Operation VISTA, an initiative targeting foreign nationals allegedly staying in India after the expiration of their visas.
His arrest, according to the police, followed a tip-off received by an Assistant Sub-Inspector, Satveer, on Tuesday, about a Nigerian national allegedly involved in supplying drugs in the Central District.
📌 Key Details
Following the tip-off, a trap was reportedly laid at the Civic Centre in the Kamla Market area, where Jonathan was apprehended.
The report added that the police recovered 23.74g of MDMA from his possession.
The report quoted the police as saying that the suspect confessed to having obtained the alleged contraband from another Nigerian national identified as Prince, who is believed to reside in Tughlakabad Extension.
The police further said Jonathan had entered India in October 2024 on a medical visa as a medical attendant but remained in the country after his visa expired.
Jonathan allegedly told investigators that he became involved in drug trafficking to meet his daily expenses.
His arrest adds to the growing number of Nigerians facing prosecution in India over alleged drug-related offences.
