The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has explained why some retirement claims take longer than the 14-day processing period amid uproar over the same.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Responding to queries, the Fund said the delay might be caused when claims require further verification or resolution of an issue.

"If there is an issue with the claim that requires further verification or resolution, processing may take longer than expected," NSSF said.

This, NSSF said, may take longer to process before they can proceed to the next stage.

📌 What You Need to Know

The clarification came after a member questioned why a claim had gone beyond the 21-day window, reaching beyond a month.

NSSF's response comes amid concerns from members over delays in accessing retirement benefits after completing the application process.

It is worth noting that NSSF claims typically take between 7 and 14 working days for approval and payout.

According to the Fund, the 14-day timeline is achievable when claimants submit all the required documents, including accurate bank details, valid identification, and complete employment records.

Besides verification, another thing that can cause a delay is unremitted funds from past employers, as NSSF will be forced to trace the records.

However, there are plans to make payouts within a few hours to one day, beginning in 2027.
