The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has explained how Kenyans can acquire unique vehicle numbers, such as “KES 100M”, once a new registration series is about to be introduced.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The clarification came after a Kenyan on social media asked whether it is possible to reserve future number plates, including “KEG 500L” and “KES 100M”, before the series is officially released.

The post quickly went viral online due to the unusual and attractive combinations, especially 'KES 100M', which resembles the abbreviation for Kenyan shillings and 100 million.

"Is it possible to reserve these plates? KEG 500L and KES 100M?" questioned the online user.

📌 What You Need to Know

In response, NTSA stated that motorists cannot directly reserve future ordinary registration numbers before the series is officially activated for application.

“Reserve? No. However, you can wait till or just before the series KEG or KES begins and proceed to apply for a Special Plate,” the Authority wrote on its X platform.

This means that while a person cannot book future number plates in advance, they still have a chance to secure their desired combinations through the Special Plate application process once the series nears release.

Vehicle registration numbers are given in sequential and alphabetical order, meaning combinations like 'KES 100M' only become available when the KES series officially starts.

According to the NTSA, interested motorists can monitor upcoming registration series and apply for preferred combinations before they are assigned under the normal issuance process.

Some Kenyans prefer special number plates because they are often associated with prestige, status, or personal identity.
