Motorists renewing their smart driving licenses are required to undergo biometric capture before their applications can be processed, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has clarified.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The authority said drivers who have paid for license renewal online but have not had their biometrics captured must visit an NTSA office or a nearby Huduma Centre to have their biometrics captured.

The clarification comes amid complaints about delays in receiving renewed driving licenses after motorists have paid for them.

In response, the authority explained that the delay might have been due to the motorists not presenting themselves for biometric capture.

📌 What You Need to Know

According to the authority, biometric capture is mandatory for renewals , and drivers must complete the process after making their online payments.

"Did you visit for biometric capture after paying online? If no, kindly do so at our offices or a nearby Huduma. No appointment is needed," NTSA stated.

"You are required to visit for biometrics when renewing the driving license," it added.

However, despite the clarification, many motorists stated they were not informed that biometric capture is required to renew the licence, amid growing frustration.

The biometric capture requirement applies to smart driving licenses, meaning every motorist seeking to renew their license will have to undergo the capture before obtaining the smart license.

It is important to note that NTSA is phasing out the traditional paper-based physical license, requiring every motorist to have the new smart driving license.
