The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has outlined the specific services that trigger the issuance of an eLogbook under its digital vehicle registration system.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a June 29 notice seen by this publication, NTSA said eLogbooks are only generated after the completion of specific vehicle-related processes, particularly in cases where a motorist has not previously applied for one.

Motor vehicle registration, transfer of ownership, and alternative ownership transfers are listed as services that generate eLogbooks, meaning that in cases of sale or change of ownership, the digital logbook is issued once the transaction is processed and approved by NTSA.

The eLogbook is also issued in cases involving asset financing transactions, both when a vehicle is placed under financing (in-charge) and when it is cleared (discharge).

📌 What You Need to Know

Other qualifying processes include re-registration, which applies to number plate changes and ownership updates, as well as de-registration of a vehicle in cases such as exports, accident write-offs, unserviceable conditions or irregular registration.

According to the authority, changes in vehicle particulars following inspection will also trigger the issuance of an eLogbook to reflect updated physical details.

NTSA further noted that digital logbooks will also be generated through the issuance of a duplicate logbook, such as when a motorist with an existing physical logbook applies for a digital version under the new system.

Motorists seeking to access the digital logbook must first complete the application, payment and all required registration procedures.

NTSA urged motorists to verify the authenticity of their eLogbooks through the NTSA App or via service portal on its official website as part of measures to enhance security and reduce fraud in vehicle ownership records.

Also, NTSA officers cannot download or process eLogbooks on behalf of clients, and no third party or agent is authorised to offer such services.
