The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has refunded a motorist, closing out a months-long dispute over a costly number plate mix-up.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
In a statement released by the Commission on Administrative Justice, popularly known as the Office of the Ombudsman, as seen by Kenyans.co.ke on August 13, the motorist had paid Ksh66,050 to NTSA on August 19, 2025, but the payment was made in error.
“The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) finally processed and refunded Kshs. 66,050 following the intervention of the Commission,” the Ombudsman stated.
He had intended to pay for reflective parastatal number plates meant for the Kenya Sugar Research and Training Institute (KESRETI).
📌 What You Need to Know
Instead, the money went toward security number plates, a completely different category altogether from what was intended earlier.
What followed was a long wait for NTSA to acknowledge the mistake and return his money.
When the Authority failed to act, the motorist turned to the Ombudsman Office, which opened an inquiry and reached out to NTSA seeking clarity on the delayed refund.
NTSA did not respond, forcing the Commission to send several reminders over the following weeks.
The silence continued, prompting the Commission to escalate matters by issuing a Notice to Show Cause dated April 17.
The notice was addressed directly to the Chief Executive Officer and Director General of NTSA, Nashon Kondiwa, demanding an explanation for the unresolved case.
