The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has directed vehicle owners to collect their physical logbooks immediately, warning that any unclaimed documents will be disposed of after six months.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
In a notice dated Thursday, June 11, NTSA said it will no longer store printed logbooks that have not been collected beyond the six months, urging vehicle owners to act promptly to avoid inconvenience.
The Authority noted that all motorists whose logbooks are currently awaiting collection at NTSA offices should visit the designated collection centres as soon as possible to retrieve the documents.
"The Authority wishes to inform all motor vehicle owners that NTSA will not store currently printed and yet to be collected logbooks for more than a period of six months," NTSA stated.
📌 What You Need to Know
"After 6 months, all uncollected logbooks will be disposed of in accordance with the Authority's policy," the Authority warned.
NTSA stated that the move is intended to address the backlog of uncollected logbooks even as the Authority fully migrates to the production of electronic logbooks.
The transport agency further warned that clients may be denied access to services that require a copy of a logbook if they fail to attach the current or original logbook to their applications.
According to NTSA, possession of the original logbook remains a key requirement for several vehicle-related services, including ownership verification and other administrative processes.
NTSA further stated that the collection of the physical logbooks remains free of charge and does not attract any additional fees for vehicle owners.
However, motorists collecting their logbooks will be required to present the previous logbook alongside a valid identification document for verification purposes.
