In a notice issued on Friday, June 12, NTSA Director General Nashon Kondiwa directed that all vehicles operating under the Sacco cease operations with immediate effect.

The action follows a probe triggered by the death of Eugene Mutuku on Thursday, June 4, 2026, a 19-year-old KMTC medical student, in an incident involving a Nicco Sacco matatu.
According to preliminary accounts, Mutuku was allegedly assaulted and thrown from a moving vehicle following a fare dispute. The matatu is said not to have stopped after the incident and instead ran over the student, who later succumbed to his injuries before receiving medical attention.
