🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
The PS announced the updates in a social media post, reiterating that since independence, Wajir has never had a stadium and has relied on alternative grounds for public gatherings and community sporting events.
“Since independence, Wajir has never had a stadium, relying instead on open, undeveloped grounds such as Wajir Baraza Park for community events and public gatherings,” stated the PS.
Adding, “Sixty-two years later, under the leadership of H.E. President William Samoei Ruto, the town is witnessing a transformative shift, demonstrated in the rapid progress of the Wajir Stadium, now 84 per cent complete.”

He stated that the works are being fast-tracked ahead of the June 1 celebrations, with the project positioned as both a national venue and a long-term sports development asset for the region.
The facility is managed by the Ministry of Defense through the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF), with a multi-agency team coordinating for the timely completion of the project.
The 10,000-seater stadium includes a full-sized football pitch planned for artificial turf, an eight-lane running track, modern changing rooms, VIP lounges, and improved spectator amenities for athletes and fans across the region.
Photos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke show that seat installation works are ongoing alongside construction of spectator terraces, parking spaces, and a borehole for guaranteed reliable water supply for daily stadium operations and maintenance needs in the facility.
According to the PS, the project is expected to tap and open benefits for the people of Wajir and the wider North Eastern region by promoting local talent, stimulating small businesses, and enhancing social cohesion using sports.
“This investment is set to unlock significant benefits for Wajir and the wider North Eastern Region, providing a platform for local talent to thrive, stimulating small businesses, and fostering social cohesion through sports and community events,” stated the PS.
