Police in Nyandarua have launched a manhunt for a former Member of County Assembly (MCA) and a county assembly official following overnight political chaos in Ol Kalou that left tensions high and raised fresh concerns over political intolerance ahead of local campaigns.

Authorities say the violence involved destruction of property, threats, and intimidation targeting political opponents and businesses believed to be hosting rival groups.

Addressing the incident, Nyandarua County Commissioner Abdirisak Jaldesa warned that security agencies would not tolerate violence, threats or attempts to disrupt political activities in the area.

“We have seen in the last few days incidents involving the destruction of government property and threats. We will not allow people, either verbally or physically, to threaten others. Everyone has the right to campaign without being disturbed,” Jaldesa said.

The County Commissioner further accused some groups of using intimidation tactics against political opponents, including targeting hotels and businesses associated with rival camps.

“There has been intolerance where parties bring groups to intimidate opponents. We will not allow it,” he added.
