The National Police Service (NPS) has launched a manhunt for Kuresoi North MP Alfred Mutai following violent clashes at a Youth Empowerment Meeting in Nakuru County that left three people nursing gunshot wounds.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a statement issued on Friday evening and seen by Kenyans.co.ke , police named Mutai as the prime suspect in the chaos that erupted at Sirikwa Umoja Grounds in Kuresoi Sub-County during an event attended by several political leaders.

"The Service is pursuing the prime suspect, Hon. Alfred Mutai, who is currently on the run. Police officers have launched a manhunt to apprehend him and other persons connected to the incident," NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said.

The service urged the MP to surrender himself at the nearest police station to assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the reported shooting.

📌 What You Need to Know

"We urge Mutai to present himself at the nearest police station to assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the shooting."

The developments came just hours after President William Ruto, speaking during a burial service in Nandi County on Friday, directed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and security agencies to take firm action against the rising menace of goons and political violence.

NPS said preliminary investigations indicate that a confrontation broke out between groups of suspected goons allied to the MP and supporters of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.

Police further disclosed that officers have launched a manhunt to apprehend the legislator and other individuals believed to have been involved in the incident.

However, Mutai dismissed the allegations, claiming he only became aware of reports linking him to the chaos through social media and denying any involvement in the violence.

“I did not witness all that is in the media. Up to now, I do not know what happened,” he said.
