Kameme FM has dismissed claims circulating on social media that the station and its online platforms will be temporarily shut down to address compliance concerns.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
The claims originated from a notice attributed to the station’s parent company, Mediamax, issuing a directive that Kameme FM and Kameme FM Online would be off air for 30 days starting June 18.
In an alert posted on Wednesday, June 17, the popular radio station distanced itself from the notice, emphasising it did not originate from the company.
“Fake news! The information did not come from the Mediamax company,” Kameme FM stated on its official X platform alongside the flagged notice.
📌 What You Need to Know
The fake notice cited a show cause notice issued by the Media Council of Kenya, suggesting that compliance concerns were part of the reason for the alleged shutdown.
It added that the closure was intended to allow for internal reorganisation and compliance-related training.
Additionally, the notice went on to suggest that other Mediamax outlets, including radio stations Milele, Msenangu, Mayian, Meru and Emoo, as well as K24 Digital and People Daily, would also be affected.
Kameme FM has urged members of the public and its audience to disregard the notice in its entirety.
The staple radio station maintained that its operations will remain normal despite the circulating claims.
Listeners, customers and advertisers that were expecting the inconvenience have been assured that services will not be disrupted.
