The Parklands Residents Association (PRA) and the Nairobi Rivers Commission (NRC) have moved to clarify claims circulating online about demolitions in Parklands.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
The clarification follows a viral post claiming that Nairobi County was demolishing homes belonging to a particular ethnic community and that residents had been given 24 hours to leave Kenya.
PRA dismissed the claim while confirming that demolitions are taking place in parts of Parklands as part of the ongoing enforcement exercise.
"The assertion that Kenyans were asked to leave the country is not true," PRA said in a statement issued to residents on Thursday, August 13.
📌 What You Need to Know
The association urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, saying the exercise should not be used to intimidate residents or force them to vacate their properties outside the established process.
The NRC separately confirmed that a multi-agency team carried out riparian reclamation activities along Ndovu Ahmed Lane, Khawtar 2, and Parklands Avenue.
"The exercise follows the established process of public engagement, demarcation and issuance of notices to affected properties," the Commission said in a statement shared with Kenyans.co.ke.
The NRC said the activities were being undertaken in accordance with laws and procedures governing the protection of riparian areas.
Its demarcation exercise along the Nairobi River covers about 27 kilometres from Gitwamba Bridge to Naivasha Road, with the riparian boundary measured using a 30-metre buffer from the highest water mark.
The Commission said residents seeking clarification on notices, demarcation, or verification should use official channels and seek assistance from relevant government offices.
