The blaze broke out at around 5am, destroying property worth millions of shillings, while no injuries were reported.
The students were in morning preparations when the fire broke out, allowing them to leave the affected dormitory safely as emergency teams moved in to contain the blaze.
A teacher at the school said the cause of the fire had not been established as the school assessed the extent of the damage.
📌 What You Need to Know
The Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) confirmed that it responded to the incident alongside the Uasin Gishu County Coordinator, police, the fire brigade and members of the local community.
“This morning, KRCS responded to a fire incident at Hill School, Eldoret, which broke out at around 5am and affected a dormitory housing some 340 Form 3 and 4 students,” the organisation stated.
“The fire has since been contained. No injuries were reported, as all students were in morning preps at the time,” KRCS added.
The organisation said psychosocial support was being provided to affected students, alongside a rapid needs assessment to establish the extent of the damage and inform the appropriate course of action.
The incident comes amid a series of school fires reported across the country in recent months, raising renewed concerns over student safety and fire preparedness in learning institutions.
A recent incident was reported at Kirwara Boys High School in Gatanga, Murang’a County, where a fire broke out in the school compound and prompted the evacuation of students.
