Kiambaa residents have staged protests demanding the resignation of their Member of Parliament, John Njuguna Wanjiku, popularly known as Kawanjiku, over allegations linking him to the deployment of goons during the July 16 Ol Kalou by-election.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Images obtained by Kenyans.co.ke on Monday, July 20, show demonstrators carrying placards and twigs as they called on the lawmaker to step down over the allegations.

The protesters demanded that Kawanjiku publicly disclose those he allegedly worked with in the operation, including those they claim orchestrated the deployment of the armed groups during the by-election.

They also accused the MP of neglecting development in Kiambaa, claiming he had shifted his focus from representing constituents to advancing the interests of powerful figures within the government, allegations that have not been independently verified.

📌 What You Need to Know

The demonstrators also called on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to include Kawanjiku among individuals under investigation for allegedly financing or facilitating political goonism as the government intensifies its crackdown on the vice.

They further threatened to march to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) headquarters in Nairobi on Friday, July 24, to present a petition seeking to bar the MP from contesting in the 2027 General Election.

The protesters also vowed to file a formal complaint with Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja over his alleged involvement in ferrying goons to Ol Kalou.

The protests come days after Kawanjiku was named in an NTV investigative exposé, #TheOlKalouCrimeScene , which linked luxury vehicles and masked, armed men to the violence witnessed during the contested Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.

According to the report, investigators traced a black Toyota Land Cruiser seen alongside masked gunmen to the Kiambu lawmaker, placing him at the centre of questions over who coordinated the violence that disrupted voting.

The investigation also alleged that a convoy of high-end vehicles used duplicated or cloned registration plates as it moved through Ol Kalou, intimidating voters and storming polling stations.
