🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
Speaking after a consultative meeting with Defence Principal Secretary Peter Mariru at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters where PS Olunga said that the multi-billion project is progressing steadily, with both ministries reaffirming their commitment to ensure the facility is delivered on time.
The meeting focused on construction milestones, timelines and implementation progress as the government races to deliver the ambitious healthcare facility within schedule.
Once complete, the hospital will become the largest in Kenya, dramatically expanding the country’s specialised healthcare capacity while positioning Eldoret as a major regional medical hub.
📌 What You Need to Know
The government is moving to fast-track one of Kenya’s biggest healthcare infrastructure projects.
Kenyans.co.ke also noted that this information followed after the government on January 3, 2023 announced plans to construct the facility in Kiplombe, Eldoret, as part of ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing access to quality and affordable healthcare in the country.
Speaking on January 3, 2023 in Eldoret during a tour of the facility, Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha stated that the designs of the facility were ready with the government seeking a proper financing mechanism to kick off the project.
Beyond transforming healthcare services, the hospital is also expected to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs ranging from healthcare professionals and technicians to construction workers, suppliers, cleaners, transport operators and food vendors, potentially reshaping the economic landscape of Uasin Gishu County.
Tracking back today's meeting, PS Oluga noted that the hospital will not only improve access to advanced healthcare services, but also support medical training, research and innovation in the country.
“This is a critical national investment that will strengthen healthcare infrastructure and expand access to specialised medical services,” he said.
