Private roads and footpaths in 11 estates across three counties will be closed for 24 hours in October, according to a notice published on Friday, September 25, 2026.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The affected estates are spread across Kiambu, Nyeri and Bomet counties, with residents and other road users expected to make alternative arrangements during the closure.

“Notice is given that all private roads and footpaths on the following estates owned by the company will be closed on Tuesday, 13th October 2026, for 24 hours commencing at 6:00 a.m. to ensure that no claim whatsoever can be made by any party, including yourselves, of adverse possession of the said roads and footpaths, which are within our property," the notice read.

In Kiambu County, the estates listed in the notice are Kamundu, Kakindu, Tinganga, Doondu, Ruiru Mills and Gulmarg.

📌 What You Need to Know

Mweiga Estate in Nyeri County is also listed among the properties where private roads and footpaths will be closed.

In Bomet County, the affected estates are Kipkebe, Magura, Kiptenden and Keritor, all located in Sotik.

"The roads and footpaths would be closed to prevent anyone from claiming adverse possession of the routes within the properties," the notice added.

Adverse possession refers to a legal process through which a person may, subject to specific conditions set by law, seek rights over land based on prolonged occupation or use.

The temporary closure is therefore intended to protect the property owner's rights over the private roads and footpaths within the affected estates.

The notice specified that the closure would last for 24 hours, meaning the affected routes are expected to reopen after the designated period.
