ICT and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has defended former President Uhuru Kenyatta against criticism of his administration's record during his tenure.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Speaking during an interview with Kameme FM on Monday, August 17, Kabogo criticised those condemning Uhuru over the shortcomings of his administration while supporting President William Ruto's government.

According to the CS, Ruto was Uhuru's deputy for 10 years and therefore shared responsibility for the administration's record during that period.

Kabogo maintained that Ruto cannot fault the previous administration over its shortcomings while taking credit for developments achieved under the same government.

He emphasised that the president cannot separate himself from the record of the government they jointly led.

"Sometimes politics is a very dirty game. The current president was Uhuru's deputy. If they succeeded, they succeeded together, and if they failed, they failed together. They were joined at the hip by a common ticket,"  Kabogo stated.

The former Kiambu governor argued that the political partnership between Uhuru and Ruto was based on a common presidential ticket and that both leaders should therefore be judged on the administration's record.

Kabogo's remarks come amid President Ruto's renewed attacks on Uhuru over some of the projects that failed in the previous administration.

Addressing a rally in Eldoret on Thursday, August 13, Ruto questioned Uhuru's legacy over the delivery of projects like affordable housing, universal health coverage, or proper education during his tenure.

“When you look at those people, didn’t their sponsor fail at matters of affordable housing? Now he has gone to organise his proxies, sending people here to come and compete with me,” Ruto said.
