President William Ruto is set to depart the country on Monday, June 15, for Evian, France, where he will represent Africa at the G7 Leaders' Summit.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The trip was confirmed by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed, who said President Ruto had been invited by French President Emmanuel Macron to participate in the high-level meeting of the world's leading economies.

“President William Ruto departs later tonight for Evian, France, at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron to participate in the G7 Leaders’ Summit, where he will represent Africa and advance the continent’s priorities before the world’s leading economies,” Hussein said in a statement on June 15.

During the summit, Ruto is expected to join several world leaders for discussions on key global issues, including economic growth, trade, climate action, security and technological development.

📌 What You Need to Know

The guest list includes Macron, U.S. President Donald Trump, Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney and Germany's Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Also expected are Italy's Giorgia Meloni, Japan's Shigeru Ishiba, Britain's Keir Starmer, and European Union (EU) chiefs António Costa and Ursula von der Leyen.

For President Ruto, this summit is a chance to push Africa's agenda, building on the resolutions from last month's Africa Forward Summit held which Kenya jointly hosted with France, that laid out a shared continental plan covering economic transformation, financial reforms, climate action and digital growth.

Ruto is expected to use the G7 Summit platform to push for reforms to the global financial system, advocating for easier access to capital and credit for African nations to boost growth and job creation.

He is also set to champion stronger partnerships between Africa and the world's major economies, focusing on trade, infrastructure, energy, climate resilience and innovation, while pursuing investment opportunities for Kenyan businesses.

Additionally, he will address Africa's position on artificial intelligence governance, calling for equitable access to emerging technologies and increased investment in digital infrastructure, data centres and skills development across the continent.
