🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
While speaking during a church function in A.I.C. Githumu, Kandara, Murang’a County, President William Ruto announced that the Mau Mau Road Project is 60 per cent complete.
“We have many road projects here in Muranga County, and one road project in particular is the Mau Mau Road Project, is now 60 per cent complete,” stated President Ruto.
He added, “We have now allocated Ksh2 billion on Mau Mau Roads Project so that it can be completed in due time, latest in the next two years.”
📌 What You Need to Know
President Ruto stated the Ksh2 billion will cater for the section of the road, which traverses Muranga County in 48 Kilometres in distance.
The Mau Mau Road project is a major infrastructure initiative in Kenya designed to connect the four counties of Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, and Nyandarua.
Often referred to as a "historical" project, it follows the routes used by freedom fighters during the Mau Mau uprising and aims to transform the economic landscape of the Mt. Kenya region.
The total length of the road is approximately 540 kilometres, including main arteries and feeder roads, estimated to cost the government roughly Ksh30 billion.
The road traverses four counties, with it beginning at Githunguri, Kiambu County, and ending at Njengu in Nyeri, joining the Nyeri-Nyahururu highway.
Started two years ago, the main aim is to ease the transport of agricultural products such as tea and coffee to reduce travel time, and preserve historical significance by building museums along the route.
