President William Ruto has directed all government institutions, public offices, and employers to stop using the term "watchmen" when referring to private security guards and instead adopt the official designation "private security officers."
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
"I have directed all government offices and public offices to expunge the use of the word 'watchmen' so that they can use the name 'private security officers,'" Ruto said.
Ruto, while addressing private security personnel at State House, Nairobi, on Thursday, August 6, said the laws governing the sector would be amended to formally recognise the title "private security officers" in place of "watchmen."
At the same time, Ruto directed employers, the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) and the relevant government ministries to establish a clear career progression framework for private security officers across the country.
