🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
Speaking during a fundraising ceremony in Kiserian on Sunday, June 14, the head of state stated that the government had already initiated the process of upgrading the road, which he said will be funded by the National Infrastructure Fund (NIF).
The president acknowledged the persistent traffic challenges experienced by motorists and passengers plying that route, particularly along the Bomas and Ongata Rongai.
"There is a problem from Kajiado going to Nairobi, especially from Bomas, Ongata Rongai up to Ngong," Ruto stated.
📌 What You Need to Know
To address the challenge, Ruto revealed that he had directed the Ministry of Roads and Transport to place the Rongai-Kiserian-Nairobi road under the National Infrastructure Fund to facilitate its expansion into a dual carriageway.
"I have directed the Ministry of Roads and Transport to put that road from Rongai, Kiserian, Nairobi into the National Infrastructure Fund so that we can dual it," he added.
According to Ruto, preliminary studies are currently underway to determine the scope and implementation of the project.
"For now, they are doing feasibility studies and gathering information so that we can see how we work on that road," he said.
The Kiserian-Rongai-Nairobi road is a vital 20-kilometre corridor that directly connects Nairobi to Ongata Rongai and Kiserian.
The road starts at the junction of Lang'ata Road near Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi, passes through the Ongata Rongai residential and commercial hub, and extends onward to Kiserian.
