Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has declared interest in running for the presidency in 2032, while also ruling out the possibility of becoming President William Ruto's running mate in 2027, even as controversy surrounds the position.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Speaking during an interview with TV 47, Mudavadi said his political focus for the 2027 election remains supporting President Ruto’s bid for a second term, stressing that his support is not tied to securing a government position.

The PCS drew a distinction between his long-term presidential ambitions and the 2027 election, saying he was not seeking the running mate position.

"I am not asking to be a running mate. 2032, I am saying is my interest for the presidency. I am not speaking about 2027. I have made it very categorical that I am supporting William Ruto," Mudavadi stated.

The Prime CS, who also serves as the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, said he is not interested in the position but would only take it if offered to him by the President himself.

He maintained that his support for the President was a deliberate political decision and was not conditional on being appointed or selected for any position.

“My support for him is not conditional on a position. If he sees I am capable of becoming ha running mate, that is his decision. But in terms of the support for the seat, it is him we are supporting to be President. And and my support for him is not conditional. On a position. It's not," he added.

His remarks come amid growing political discussions over who could feature on Ruto’s 2027 presidential ticket, with several leaders positioning themselves ahead of the next General Election.

According to Mudavadi, the Deputy President position is not vacant, defending DP Kithure Kindik i, saying that he was performing his duties effectively.

“As far as I’m concerned, the position is not vacant. DP Kindiki is in place. He’s doing a good job. He’s working for the President and working for the country,” Mudavadi said.
