President William Ruto’s gift of a brand-new Toyota Prado TX to Luo Council of Elders chairman Ker Odungi Randa has grown from a gesture of generosity into a fresh political storm in Luo Nyanza.
The vehicle was delivered at Ker Randa's home in Boya by a team from the office of Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo just days after Mr Randa made a direct appeal to President Ruto for assistance with his movements during the President’s tour of the region.
Recent reports indicate that Mr Randa made the request during a meeting with President Ruto at Homa Bay State Lodge, with the President subsequently fulfilling his promise.

Mr Charles Osako, from Dr Omollo’s office, said the President had honoured his commitment to the Luo Council of Elders, terming the gesture as support for the council’s engagements and activities.

“The vehicle underscores the government’s recognition of the important role elders and cultural leaders play in preserving our values, traditions and identity,” said Mr Osako.
Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, who was present when the request was made, offered a glimpse into the moment the unexpected proposition landed on the President’s table.
The MP said after the last rally in Migori, Dr Omollo asked him to join him at the State Lodge in Homa Bay where he had organised a meeting between the Luo elders and the President.
At the tail end of the meeting, Mr Randa asked the President to help him acquire a car to ease his movements, a request the legislator thought was rather bold.
