Nairobi City Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced new measures aimed at protecting Nairobi traders from middlemen and fake county officers, offering relief to city businesspeople.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Speaking during the Nairobi Business Breakfast Forum organised by the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) on Thursday, September 17, Sakaja said businesses need to apply for licenses directly to the county, without using intermediaries or mediators.

According to the governor, the county has rolled out a website, Pay Nairobi, which is used for all licence applications.

After applying and paying, traders can download the license without necessarily involving middlemen, who often defraud them.

📌 What You Need to Know

"You do not need a middleman to obtain your county licence. Apply directly through our website, pay via Pay Nairobi and print your licence. That alone is enough," Sakaja stated.

The measure, he said,  was part of efforts to make it easier and more transparent for businesses to operate in the capital.

Besides protecting traders from intermediaries, Sakaja also announced plans to introduce a verifiable identification system for county compliance and enforcement officers.

The city boss announced that within the next month, the county will verify all county officers and provide them with identity documents.

The governor noted that the system will help businesses and members of the public confirm the identity of officers carrying out enforcement duties.

"We are also putting in place a verifiable identification system for County compliance and enforcement officers within one month to eliminate impostors and enhance accountability," he added.
