🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The land is located next to Langata Road, directly opposite the entrance to the new Bomas of Kenya.

According to the satellite imagery from The Copernicus Browser reviewed by  Kenyans.co.ke , the cleared area measured approximately 4.94 acres. The area forms part of the proposed 89-acre site for the new Nairobi Animal Orphanage.

A review of satellite images dating back to 2023 shows a marked change in the area over the past year.

📌 What You Need to Know

Images from December 2023, December 2024, December 2025, and January 7, 2026, show the section largely covered by trees and other vegetation, with no obvious large-scale disturbance.

The first visible changes appear in imagery captured on May 22, 2026, when sections of the vegetation had been cleared.

By June 6, the extent of the clearance had increased significantly, with a much larger section appearing bare.

The July 22 imagery shows the cleared section still visible, with no apparent major expansion compared with the previous images.

That image was captured a day after the Environment and Land Court in Nairobi issued a conservatory order halting ongoing construction and development projects inside Nairobi National Park linked to the proposed relocation of the animal orphanage.

The latest imagery, captured on August 12, shows the cleared section still bare.
