Several people sustained serious injuries after a tragic road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, around Kijabe on Monday, August 10.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
Images obtained by Kenyans.co.ke show the aftermath of the incident, which involved a 14-seater matatu and several SUVs, with the carnage resulting in transport paralysis along that route.
The images further show injured passengers lying on the ground, with some beneath the mangled wreckage, and most of them in critical condition.
Witnesses and other motorists at the scene were seen assisting in the rescue effort as they attempted to pull injured passengers from the wreckage.
📌 What You Need to Know
There was no immediate indication of the presence of emergency responders, including ambulances, at the scene by the time of publication.
Kenya Red Cross has since confirmed the accident, stating that a mass casualty incident involving multiple vehicles had occurred at Kijabe along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway in Kiambu County.
“Rescue efforts are ongoing. Kenya Red Cross first responders are en route, with ambulances dispatched by @_SHAKenya Kenya already on scene,” the organization said.
This incident comes days after a similar incident led to heavy traffic ground to a standstill along the busy Mai Mahiu Escarpment Road on August 4, after a multi-vehicle collision completely blocked the highway. Witnesses said the crash occurred at a sharp bend, involving two trucks and a private car.
The impact left vehicles extensively damaged, with debris strewn across the road, as motorists queued for kilometres as witnesses were forced to rush to the scene.
