🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the agency confirmed a dramatic discovery was made during what officers described as a routine inspection at a multi-agency roadblock in Kanyonyoo.

" A multi-agency security team manning a roadblock at Kanyonyoo along the Thika–Garissa Highway has intercepted a passenger bus ferrying a cache of ammunition and government stores, thwarting what could have been a serious security threat," stated DCI.

During the interception, officers initially conducted a routine inspection of the vehicle before discovering suspicious items in the boot.

📌 What You Need to Know

One of the items discovered by the police was a blue metallic box sitting inside, where they found 19 rounds of 7.62x51mm G3 live ammunition and 116 rounds of 7.62x39mm AK-47 live ammunition, alongside two empty AK-47 magazines and two machetes.

Officers also pulled out a complete set of GSU ceremonial attire, two GSU combat jackets, three jungle green trousers, and a GSU red beret, all crammed inside the same metallic box.

Authorities say the items had been booked as a parcel from Mokowe in Lamu County, but the lack of sender details immediately raised red flags about the origin and intended use.

The bus driver and conductor have since been arrested at the scene and taken into custody together with the vehicle and the recovered items as investigations commenced.

Both suspects were escorted to Kanyonyoo Police Station in Kitui County, where they remain in custody as detectives work to establish the full extent of their involvement.

The DCI has not ruled out the possibility of more arrests as the case progresses, stating that they are "pursuing critical leads to unmask the individuals behind the consignment and dismantle the criminal network."
