Several police officers were injured after they came under attack while carrying out an intelligence-led operation that resulted in the arrest of three suspects found in possession of assorted crude weapons in Garissa County.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The operation was conducted on Wednesday, July 8, in the Bulla Sagaray area of Garissa Town after officers received intelligence about a group allegedly planning to commit criminal activities.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the officers arrested three members of the group, which reportedly consisted of nine suspects.

However, the said suspects allegedly resisted arrest and turned violent, directly confronting the police officers and injuring several officers during the operation.

📌 What You Need to Know

The NPS did not disclose the number of officers injured or the extent of their injuries, but confirmed that the operation led to the recovery of assorted crude weapons.

Images shared by the police service showed the recovered weapons, including wooden clubs, sticks and other crude items believed to have been in the suspects' possession.

Meanwhile, six other suspects managed to escape during the confrontation , prompting police to launch a manhunt as efforts to track them down and arrest them continue.

On the other hand, the three suspects arrested during the raid have been taken into police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court to face relevant charges.

"The suspects, who were part of a group of nine in the Bulla Sagaray area of Garissa Town, intended to commit criminal offences, initially resisted arrest and resorted to violence, confronting the police officers and causing injuries to them," the NPS said in a statement.

Police said investigations have since been launched as officers intensify efforts to track down the remaining suspects who fled the scene.
