Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has hinted at unveiling a new political party in the coming weeks amid uncertainty over the registration of his Linda Mwananchi political outfit.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Sifuna made the remarks on Friday, August 21, during the burial service of Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, wife of Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, at Malinya Stadium in Kakamega County.

He spoke after mourners called on him to establish a political party through which he could pursue his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“I have heard calls on the need for Sifuna to have a party. I want our people to understand: do you just sit and think that Sifuna doesn't have a party?” Sifuna said, drawing cheers from mourners.

📌 What You Need to Know

The Nairobi Senator said his political team had been working on the registration of Linda Mwananchi but accused authorities of frustrating the process .

“Even if you despise us and think that we are kids, we learnt all these from the late Raila Odinga,” Sifuna said.

He urged supporters of the movement to remain patient as efforts to secure its registration continue, insisting that Kenyans were seeking credible leadership ahead of the next election.

“We will come here and let you know the name; leave that to us,” he added.

The remarks came after the Registrar of Political Parties declined an earlier application to reserve the name Linda Mwananchi Party of Kenya (LMPK).

The application was rejected over concerns about similarities with existing political party names and slogans, as well as public interest considerations.
