The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) now says future salary increases for all government workers will henceforth be tied to economic performance, affordability, productivity, job evaluations and the cost of living.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

According to the SRC (Remuneration and Benefits of State and Other Public Officers) Regulations, 2026 reviewed by Kenyans.co.ke, salary reviews will be done after every four years.

The regulations published on Friday, July 3, set out the procedures SRC will follow when setting salaries and advising the national and county governments on remuneration and benefits for all other public officers.

Under the regulations, SRC will review remuneration and benefits for all government workers every four years to align salary reviews with the national budgeting and planning cycle.

📌 What You Need to Know

However, the regulations grant the Commission power to conduct special reviews whenever emerging circumstances require immediate intervention.

The new regulations also require every public institution or organisation to submit information on the salaries and benefits of its employees whenever a review is due.

In the notice, the Commission reiterated that future salary reviews will be based on several considerations aimed at ensuring public sector pay remains fair, affordable and sustainable.

These include the country's economic performance, the ability of a public institution to meet the cost of proposed salary increases, labour market trends and the sustainability of the public wage bill.

A major feature of the new regulations is the requirement for comprehensive job evaluations, which SRC says will help determine the relative value of jobs across the public service.

This move is aimed at guaranteeing equal pay for work of equal value and promoting fairness and transparency in government remuneration.
