The Standard Media Group has issued a stern warning to rival local radio stations, cautioning them against airing English Premier League (EPL) matches without authorisation this coming season.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a statement seen by  Kenyans.co.ke on August 17, the media house announced it now holds exclusive radio broadcast rights for the 2026/2027 EPL season across Kenya, a deal that locks out every other local station.

“ The Standard Group PLC hereby formally announces that we hold the exclusive radio broadcast rights for the 2026/2027 English Premier League (EPL) season within the territory of Kenya,” Standard Media stated.

According to the company, this exclusive license grants it sole authority to transmit live EPL action on radio, meaning no competitor can legally air the matches.

📌 What You Need to Know

“ This exclusive license grants Standard Group PLC the sole authority to transmit and broadcast EPL matches on radio in Kenya. No other radio broadcaster is permitted to air or attempt to air any English Premier League matches during this period,” warned Standard Media.

According to the notice, only Radio Maisha , Spice FM , and Berur FM are the only local radio stations permitted to air EPL fixtures.

According to the company, any station that attempts to broadcast the matches without permission is violating its rights and will face immediate legal action.

“ Any unauthorised broadcasting will be deemed a breach of our rights and shall attract immediate legal action,” stated Standard Media .

EPL rights are always sold as exclusive packages, meaning only one buyer per territory gets the green light to air the matches.

Once a station secures that exclusive deal, the league's contract legally bars every other local broadcaster from airing the same live audio.
