The government has stepped up preparations for the expansion of the approximately 83-kilometre Nyali Bridge-Mtwapa-Kwa Kadzengo-Kilifi (A7) highway after identifying more parcels of land for compulsory acquisition.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
In a gazette notice issued on Friday, July 3, the National Land Commission (NLC) said it intends to acquire the additional land on behalf of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to facilitate the dualling of the busy coastal road.
The latest notice updates previous acquisition notices issued between 2020 and 2025 by deleting some parcels from the acquisition list, correcting details of others and adding fresh properties that will now be affected by the project.
"The National Land Commission intends to acquire parcels of land on behalf of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) in accordance with Section 110 of the Land Act for the dualling of the Nyali Bridge-Mtwapa-Kwa Kadzengo-Kilifi (A7) Road Section," NLC said.
📌 What You Need to Know
The addendum includes several privately owned parcels alongside land linked to Telkom Kenya, Bamburi Cement and the Kenya Society for the Deaf Children Registered Trustees.
According to the commission, affected persons can inspect plans for the proposed acquisition at its offices in Ardhi House, Nairobi, as well as the County Coordinator's office in Kilifi during official working hours.
In a separate notice, NLC also announced compensation inquiry hearings for landowners whose properties are earmarked for acquisition.
The hearings will take place between August 14 and August 16 at the Maweni, Shanzu and Mtwapa chiefs' offices, where affected landowners will be invited to present their claims.
The inquiries will consider the legality of the proposed compulsory acquisition, assess compensation payable and address any other matters relating to the affected land.
Landowners have been directed to submit written compensation claims together with copies of their national identity cards, KRA PIN certificates, ownership documents and bank account details before or on the hearing dates.
