The National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) project has warned youth against fraudulent online platforms claiming to offer access to its funding programmes.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a notice obtained by Kenyans.co.ke , NYOTA clarified that the programme does not operate an application website or mobile app through which beneficiaries receive funds.

Payments are instead sent directly to the phone numbers provided by successful applicants for the relevant NYOTA programme.

“The NYOTA Project does not have an app or website for disbursing funds to beneficiaries. Beneficiaries receive payments directly to the phone numbers they used during application for the respective NYOTA interventions,” the notice stated.

📌 What You Need to Know

The project reiterated that its official application channel is the *254# USSD service, emphasising that beneficiaries do not need links to enrol.

“NYOTA Project does not use links to enrol beneficiaries into the project. Do not click on or share links claiming to register you for NYOTA or facilitate payments,” the notice added.

The warning follows the emergence of social media accounts directing users to fake websites purporting to facilitate registration for the second phase of NYOTA funding.

The websites reportedly invite visitors to click on a link to begin an application while displaying testimonials presented as accounts from people who have allegedly received money through the programme.

Applicants are also asked to provide personal information as part of the purported registration process.

NYOTA urged the public not to open, share or submit information through links claiming to provide registration or facilitate payments.
