Kisumu County Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has raised concerns over alleged foul play in the nomination process and issuance of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party certificates ahead of the 2027 General Election.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
In a statement on Tuesday, October 6, Odinga claimed that the party had already promised some candidates direct tickets before the nominations were conducted.
According to the Kisumu lawmaker, ODM should allow all aspirants to go through free and fair nominations, arguing that issuing direct tickets goes against the party’s principles and beliefs.
She likened the nominations to a train journey, arguing that some candidates had already secured their tickets before the train even left the station.
📌 What You Need to Know
"All aspiring aspirants aboard this SGR train!!. The NGR wagon is full of passengers who already had and now are promised tickets," Odinga stated.
The MP urged the ODM leadership to abandon the plan to issue direct tickets, calling on the party to subject all aspirants to vetting by the people to strengthen the party’s democratic processes.
"Free and fair nominations! Let's not kill our favorite train, ODM, with free tickets to our favorites. Go to the people," she added.
According to her, the party should follow the example of its long-serving leader and founder, the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, especially as the country marks the first anniversary of his death this month.
Ruth's remarks come a few days before political parties submit their nomination rules to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) and the IEBC .
According to ORPP, parties are supposed to submit their nomination rules to the registrar by October 30 before submitting the same to IEBC by November 6, 2026.
