Students at a senior school in Kiminini Constituency, Trans-Nzoia County, took to the streets on Friday, September 4, to protest the alleged beating of a fellow student by the school principal.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The demonstrations reportedly spread to Kiminini Market as the students demanded accountability over the treatment of their colleague and action against the educator involved in the alleged assault.

According to an account attributed to the affected student, the confrontation began after she made political remarks while in class.

She reportedly shouted “Sisi ni Sifuna” and “Ruto ni Wantam” before allegedly being singled out by the principal.

📌 What You Need to Know

The student claimed the principal removed her from the classroom and subjected her to corporal punishment.

She was reportedly hospitalised and left experiencing severe pain and difficulty walking following the alleged incident.

Accounts circulating after the incident claimed the student has since been using a wheelchair because of the injuries.

However, the allegations have not been verified, and the school administration or relevant authorities are yet to issue a statement on the incident.

The incident raised concerns among students over the manner in which disciplinary measures are handled at the institution, prompting them to leave the school premises and demonstrate at the nearby market.

The unrest comes a day after Jomo Kenyatta Boys High School was closed indefinitely following a night of student protests that saw fires, tear gas and reported gunshots at the Nakuru institution.
