🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), in a statement released on Sunday, September 6, 2026, said the two children had been reported missing on August 27, prompting detectives from Kisauni Sub-County to launch investigations into their whereabouts.
According to the DCI, preliminary investigations established that the minors had allegedly been abducted on August 25 at Sensera by the suspect and another person who remains at large.
The suspects allegedly forced the children to cut off communication with their families before transferring them from Mombasa to Kiambu County, where they were confined in an empty room.
📌 What You Need to Know
The DCI said the children were subjected to threats during their captivity, with the suspects allegedly warning them that they would be killed if they disclosed what had happened to them.
The children were eventually released after spending several days in captivity, allowing detectives to establish the circumstances surrounding their disappearance and trace one of the suspected abductors.
In its Sunday statement, the DCI said detectives subsequently arrested one suspect as investigations continued to establish the whereabouts and identity of the alleged accomplice.
The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, September 7, where he is expected to face charges including kidnapping and child trafficking.
Further, the second suspect remains at large as detectives intensify efforts to identify and arrest the person, with investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction still ongoing.
The case comes amid wider concern over missing children in Kenya, with an average of about 30 cases reportedly registered daily. Children have been traditionally targeted through different methods, including being lured with gifts, manipulated into following strangers or forcibly taken from their surroundings.
