The Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB) has confirmed that Grade 11 textbooks will be distributed to schools across the country starting in September this year.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The announcement comes as thousands of parents and students anxiously wait to know whether learning materials will be ready in time for the new academic progression.

KLB Chairman Musyoka Muli confirmed the September timeline, saying publishers have already received the green light to begin the final distribution stages.

“Grade 11 must be distributed from September because it takes around a month to print and to package for every school in this country. So, the notifications, actually, framework agreements have already been given to publishers that have completed corrections,” stated Muli.

📌 What You Need to Know

He further explained that September is not an arbitrary deadline, noting that printing and packaging for every school in Kenya takes close to a month to complete.

Additionally, the KLB Secretary General George Okeyo, also confirmed that necessary framework agreements have already been issued to publishers who have finished making the necessary corrections to their manuscripts, moving the process a step closer to delivery.

While Grade 11 books head toward the finish line, editors are already deep into work on Grade 12 materials, with production well underway at KLB, as confirmed by Muli.

“We are in the process of producing the books for grade 11, which already, as we talked, are in the production department. Actually, what we are working on now, right on the tables of editors, is grade 12,” stated Okeyo.

Despite the September deadline, the road to getting Grade 11 textbooks into students' hands remains rocky, with the government's Ksh9.2 billion debt to publishers threatening to stall printing and disrupt distribution schedules countrywide.

On the other hand, tendering disputes and bureaucratic wrangles within the Ministry of Education have further complicated matters, with internal battles over multi-billion shilling award letters disrupting the procurement process for Grade 11 learning materials.
