🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
According to reports, the fire broke out around 3 a.m. on Wednesday; officials have not yet released an official time of the incident.
By the time the fire was contained, several traders had reportedly lost their stalls, merchandise and other property in the blaze, leaving them to assess the extent of the damage.
Some local accounts also reported that the flames affected businesses and houses in the Kwa Kairu area of Ruiru as residents rushed to the scene to try and contain the fire.
📌 What You Need to Know
At least one fire engine was reported to have responded as residents joined efforts to put out the flames and called for additional emergency support.
The Ruiru fire comes just days after another dawn fire incident in Marurui, Nairobi County, where several residents were left counting losses after their homes were gutted on Sunday, August 23.
The Marurui incident left several residents without homes after a huge fire swept through their residences in the early hours of the morning.
Videos from the scene showed affected residents carrying buckets of water and attempting to put out the flames as they called for emergency assistance.
Residents in Marurui claimed that the county fire brigade was located less than 10 kilometres from the affected area but alleged that the emergency response team had not arrived at the scene at the time of the reports.
Back in Ruiru, early local accounts indicated that no deaths or injuries had been reported following Wednesday's fire, although authorities had yet to issue a formal statement confirming the casualty figures.
