A major traffic snarl-up has been reported along the Southern Bypass after multiple trucks were involved in an accident at the Dagoretti climb lane near the Thogoto area on Tuesday afternoon.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

According to preliminary reports, one of the trucks is suspected to have suffered brake failure before the driver lost control and crashed into another transit truck, causing one of the vehicles to overturn.

Several people were reportedly injured in the crash, although the exact number and the extent of the injuries had not been confirmed by responders at the time of publication.

The accident has significantly disrupted traffic along the busy highway, with long queues building up as emergency responders and traffic officers work to clear the scene.

📌 What You Need to Know

Motorists have been advised to approach the area with caution, follow directions issued by police and traffic marshals , and use alternative routes where possible to avoid delays.

However, at the time of publication, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) had not issued any statement on the rescue operations or regarding any traffic directives.

Southern Bypass has in the past few months faced several accidents that have disrupted the normal traffic flow on the stretch.

In April this year, KeNHA was forced to announce a temporary closure of a section of the busy Nairobi Southern Bypass for vehicles that are bound for Ole Sereni following an accident that occurred on the morning of Friday, April 24.

According to a notice by the road agency, the section was closed in the area between Thogoto and Dagoretti interchanges near Karinde.

Owing to the disruption, KeNHA advised motorists to consider using the Kikuyu-Mutuini-Dagoretti (C63 Road) as an alternative.
