The National Infrastructure Fund (NIF) board has appointed Dr James Mworia as its first-ever Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a statement on Monday, September 7, the NIF board said Mworia's appointment took effect immediately, following a competitive recruitment process.

"The Board of the National Infrastructure Fund is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr James Mworia, MBS, as founding Chief Executive Officer, following a competitive recruitment process with effect from September 7 2026," the board announced.

Mworia's term runs for four years, after which the board might reappoint him for a further term.

📌 What You Need to Know

He has more than 25 years of experience in investment management, enterprise development, and capital allocation. Currently, he serves as Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, a role he has held for 17 years.

His appointment comes two months after the NIF Board of Directors announced it was seeking a CEO as the Ksh5 trillion fund takes shape.

As the Fund's CEO, Mworia will provide strategic, commercial, and operational direction as NIF seeks to become fully operational.

He will also be responsible for establishing the Fund's organisation, systems and institutional culture, as well as operationalising its governance, investment and risk-management frameworks.

At the same time, he will be tasked with developing an investable pipeline of infrastructure projects, mobilising co-investment capital, and taking priority projects through appraisal, structuring, and execution.

Established under the National Infrastructure Fund Act, 2026, the Fund seeks to scale up and accelerate infrastructure development while mobilising private capital and other non-traditional sources of infrastructure financing.
