The National Treasury has dismissed as fake a document circulating on social media that purports to show that the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has been listed as a public limited company.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The Treasury on Tuesday, October 6, dismissed the document, saying it did not originate from the ministry.

According to the ministry, the public should treat the information going around as fake and rely on information shared on its official communications channels, social media pages and website.

The document, which is presented as a record from the Business Registration Service (BRS), contains details including a company registration date of June 5, 2026, a Ksh10 billion nominal share capital and 10 million ordinary shares valued at Ksh1,000 each.

📌 What You Need to Know

It also lists Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi as a director and shareholder, with his Principal Secretary Christopher Kiprotich Kiptoo listed as a director. The document also listed the Director General of Public Investments and Portfolio Management in the ministry, Lawrence Kibet, as the company secretary.

According to the document, the records were held by the Companies Registry as of August 6, 2026.

However, Treasury has cited the document as fake , warning the public against relying on it as an official record of KPA.

The development comes amid changes to the legal structure of government-owned enterprises following the enactment of the Government-Owned Enterprises Act, 2025.

Under the reforms, government-owned enterprises, including KPA, are being reconstituted as public limited companies.

KPA remains a government-owned enterprise under the Act, which came into effect on December 5, 2025. Under the new framework, such public limited companies are owned by the National Government through the National Treasury.
