Officials of the Liberty National Alliance (LINDA) Party have claimed ownership of the party's name and identity amid ongoing disputes involving the Linda Mwananchi movement.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Speaking at the party headquarters in Kiambu, officials said they are the legitimate holders of the Linda name, symbols, and other elements of the party's identity, warning the Linda Mwananchi faction against what they described as infringement.

According to LINDA party leader Phanesio Thuku, the party began its registration process in November 2024 and has since built a nationwide membership base.

According to Thuku, the party had followed the required registration procedures. It maintained that its identity should not be confused with that of Linda Mwananchi.

"We are the official and founding members of the party recognised by the laws of the land and recognised by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP)," Thuku said.

At the same time, the party claims that the registration process has reached an advanced stage , with the Registrar of Political Parties having confirmed that the party has complied with the required conditions.

According to the officials, the Registrar requested an additional set of documents on August 14, which they said had since been submitted.

They said the only remaining step was the issuance of the party's registration certificate.

"The Registrar of Political Parties, having confirmed that our client complied with every other thing, requested that they provide just a single set of documents, which they have since provided, this request was made on August 14, which they have since provided, and the only thing that is waiting is the issuance of the registration certificate," stated the party's advocate.

The officials accused the Linda Mwananchi faction led by Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna of using a name, symbols, and identity that they claim belong to their political party.
