Kenyans and other foreigners living in the United States face fresh scrutiny after President Donald Trump's administration warned of acts that could interfere with a person's ability to enter or live in the country.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) identified document, identity, marriage, visa, asylum and employment fraud among immigration-related offences that could bar a person's entry to America.
The latest warning is part of the agency's 'Protect America' initiative, which encourages Americans to report suspected immigration fraud, abuse and other activities that threaten the U.S. and its citizens.
“U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services prioritises the safety and security of the American people,” USCIS stated in a statement on Wednesday, September 16.
📌 What You Need to Know
“We encourage the public to report any suspected fraud, abuse, or activities that threaten or undermine the United States, its government, citizens, or institutions.”
USCIS said document fraud includes using fake or altered documents , while identity fraud involves using another person's identity to obtain immigration benefits.
The agency also listed marriage fraud, involving marriages entered into to obtain immigration benefits, and visa fraud, which includes providing false information in visa applications.
Asylum fraud was also included, covering false claims made to obtain asylum or related immigration benefits in America.
Employment fraud, including misrepresenting job offers or employment information, was also flagged, with USCIS specifically warning of abuse involving the H-1B, H-2B and EB-5 visa programmes.
Kenyans and other foreign nationals were further warned against falsely claiming U.S. citizenship, including registering or voting in a federal election.
