🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
Komu, who is also a well-known businessman in the hospitality industry, on Monday, August 31, said he will run for the Westlands MP seat under the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
According to the businessman, his decision to vie for the seat followed consultations with the people in the area, who also encouraged him to vie on a DCP ticket.
"I will be vying for the seat on a DCP Party ticket. After much consultation with the locals, it's apparent that it's the party of choice for the majority. I am sure I will deliver the seat to the party," he said.
📌 What You Need to Know
Among his manifestos is to improve education in the area, including helping build more secondary schools in all the constituencies' five wards.
"We currently have less than five secondary schools in Westlands. Like in Karura ward, we have no single secondary school; it only has Hospital Hill School, which is a boarding school and hosts a lot of students who are not locals. Once elected, I will ensure we contract one fully equipped school in every ward," he added.
The businessman has served in the past as a Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Ndarugo ward during the 2013-2017 period.
His entry to the Westlands race now adds to the growing list of aspirants seeking the seat, with five aspirants so far declaring their interest in the position.
Among them are former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi, who is seeking the dcp ticket, and Mike Gumo, the son of former long-serving Wetlands MP Fred Gumo.
Also, Moses Budamba Mudavadi, the son of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musaklia Mudavadi, is eyeing the seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, as well as the current Kitisuru Member of County Assembly (MCA) Alvin Olando, who is eying the seat on an ODM ticket.
