The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has charged two former public employees over allegations of using forged academic certificates to secure jobs and earn millions of shillings in salaries.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
The two suspects were arraigned separately at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on Wednesday, where they denied the charges.
One of the suspects, a former Security Supervisor at Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC), is accused of presenting a forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate to secure employment.
The certificate was purportedly issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and indicated that the suspect had studied at Githaiga Secondary School.
📌 What You Need to Know
EACC investigations established that the suspect was not a student at the school where the certificate indicated he had studied .
The commission further alleges that the forged certificate enabled the suspect to secure employment at NCWSC, where he worked from 2007 until December 2023.
During the period, the suspect is alleged to have fraudulently acquired public property amounting to Ksh15.86 million through salaries earned from the institution.
The suspect was subsequently charged with fraudulent acquisition of public property, forgery, and uttering a false document after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions concurred with EACC's recommendations.
In the second case, another former public employee is accused of submitting a forged Certificate in Refrigeration Grade II Trade Test while applying for a Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Technician position at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital.
The certificate was purportedly issued by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA). The suspect was charged with providing false information, forgery, and uttering a false document.
