Chesumei Constituency MP Paul Biego has broken his silence after losing a truck worth more than Ksh20 million during violent protest witnessed in Naivasha on Monday, May 18.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
In a statement, the UDA legislator said his Actros 3340 truck was completely destroyed after it was allegedly targeted by individuals participating in the demonstrations linked to the ongoing matatu strike.
According to the MP, the truck had safely transported flour from Eldoret to Kanini Haraka Wholesalers before it was attacked and set ablaze in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
Biego claimed the attackers identified the vehicle as being from the North Rift region , raising fears of what he described as a coordinated targeting of trucks and vehicles originating from the area.
📌 What You Need to Know
The legislator lamented that the destruction was not only a financial blow but also the loss of years of hard work and sacrifice.
“This is not just a truck. It represents years of sleepless nights, relentless sacrifice, and honest hard work,” he said.
He added that many livelihoods had been affected by the incident, noting that such violence leaves families vulnerable and destroys investments built over many years.
“What’s more heartbreaking and deeply unsettling is that there seems to be a coordinated active targeting and monitoring of vehicles and trucks from North Rift in this ongoing violence,” Biego stated.
The MP further condemned the violence witnessed during the demonstrations, saying innocent business owners and transport operators were suffering huge losses despite having no involvement in the protests.
The incident comes amid rising tensions in several towns as transport operators continue protesting over fuel prices and operational costs, with some demonstrations turning chaotic and leading to the destruction of property.
