Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to review and offer recommendations in a new approach to end the hostilities in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, which is already suffering severely from the raging Ebola outbreak.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Uhuru, who serves as the Facilitator of the Armed Groups Working Stream for the Eastern DRC Peace Process, received a report on Wednesday, June 24, proposing a way to end the conflict that has ravaged the region for decades.

The report was handed over after a Process Design Meeting at his Ichaweri home in Gatundu, Kiambu County, as confirmed by his communication team.

“The Process Design Meeting in support of H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta’s Armed Groups Working Stream for the Eastern DRC Peace Process concluded today, 24 June 2026, at Ichaweri, Gatundu, Kiambu County,” stated Uhuru.

📌 What You Need to Know

Adding, “Participants submitted a detailed report on actor mapping and analysis, recommending entry options for Facilitator H.E. Kenyatta, drawing from experiences of the Nairobi Process and other ongoing initiatives.”

The team behind the report spent time mapping out the key armed actors operating across Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu provinces.

Their work also included a detailed analysis of entry points that Uhuru, as the official facilitator, can use to engage these groups in meaningful dialogue.

The recommendations draw heavily from lessons learned under the Nairobi Process and other active peace initiatives in the region.

Uhuru serves as the East African Community's (EAC) lead facilitator for the eastern DRC conflict, one that has dragged on for ages.

Eastern DRC has been a conflict zone for decades, with over 100 armed groups fighting for control of land and minerals, displacing more than seven million people.
