NAIROBI, Kenya Sep 22 – Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has said he believes the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga won the 2022 presidential election, while rejecting claims that he failed to support Odinga’s bid.

📻 Breaking It Down

Speaking during a Jubilee Party National Executive Committee meeting in Nairobi, Kenyatta said he and his allies did everything possible to support Odinga’s presidential campaign under the Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition.

“Tulifanya kila kitu kumsaidia Baba awe Rais wa Jamhuri yetu ya Kenya. Na kura akapata, na mimi mpaka wa leo najua ya kwamba yeye ndiye alishinda hiyo kura,” Kenyatta said.

Kenyatta questioned how the Azimio coalition could have secured a significant number of elective seats in Parliament and counties while losing the presidency.

📌 What You Need to Know

“How can you say you won yet we have most Members of Parliament, Senators, and Governors? How could you say we lost? We know how things went down,” he said.

He also dismissed claims that he did not adequately support Odinga during the 2022 presidential campaign.

“I am shocked to hear people saying that we did not help Baba, saying that Uhuru Kenyatta did not win. I was not the one at the ballot; I was just Raila’s handyman,” Kenyatta said.

The former President urged political leaders to avoid divisive politics as they prepare for the 2027 General Election, calling on them to focus on their manifestos and campaign peacefully.

“Using dirty politics will not take us anywhere; let nobody try to divide us. What does it help you? Share your manifesto,” he said.

Kenyatta’s remarks come as Jubilee and other political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 General Election.
